Second Bell-47 crashes in as many weeks

Johnson County, In. — For the second time in two weeks, a Bell 47 helicopter has crashed in central Indiana.

On July 6 a Bell 47 helicopter crashed killing the pilot, Kerry D. Lee, 52, of Mooresville, around 6:25 p.m. near the Rush-Shelby County line.

On Sunday another Bell 47 helicopter crashed near Franklin Flying Field in Johnson County around 6 p.m. Investigators believe the pilot was testing the aircraft when it caught fire and went down at the end of the runway. The pilot was not seriously injured.

Officials from the FAA are investigating both incidents separately.
