Sandra Kay Clayton, Versailles

Sandra Kay Clayton, 72, of Versailles passed away at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born in Milan on October 30, 1953, the daughter of Albert and Gladys Webster Steele. She was married to Paul Clayton on February 19, 1971 and he preceded her in death on January 16 of this year. Survivors include one son David Scott (Sophie) Clayton of Floyds Knobs; one daughter Angela Deann (Frank) Clayton-Earl of Holton; two grandchildren Lucy Kay Clayton and Paul Michael Parsons; 4 great-grandchildren; three brothers Glenn Steele of Versailles, Leigh (Cheryl) Steele of Benham, and Norman (Ann) Steele of North Carolina; sister-in-law Charlotte Steele of Greenwood. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Ralph and Terry Steele. Mrs. Clayton was a former employee of US Shoe in Osgood, the Colonial Cottage Restaurant in Versailles, and retired from Ripley Publishing in Versailles. Sandy loved to collect dishes, especially Fiesta Ware, glass chickens, and Pyrex. On her bucket list was a trip to West Virginia to purchase dishes, a trip she got to do this summer. Sandy’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at a later date at the New Marion Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Sandy’s grandchildren in care of the funeral home.
