Ruth Ann Gehring, age 63 of Oldenburg, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at her residence. Born June 3, 1952 in Batesville, she is the daughter Coletta (Nee: Bedel) and Alban Prickel. She married Marvin Gehring July 13, 1974 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris. Ruth Ann was a member of Holy Family Church and The Daughters of Isabella. A waitress for 45 years, she worked at the Sherman House for 10 years and the Brau Haus 35 years.
Ruth Ann was a perfectionist. Hair and dress were important and each needed to be just so. She was also very much a creature of habit. Wednesday was hair appointment day, Friday was grocery shopping day, Saturday was the day to wash the car and the yard was mowed every week, whether it needed or not. She was known for her peanut butter pies which were enjoyed by family as well as patron’s at the Brau Haus. Ruth Ann never knew a stranger and loved to dance. She truly enjoyed and appreciated the benefit dance held for her last August.
She is survived her husband Marvin; son Nick Gehring, both of Oldenburg; brothers Raymond Prickel of Sunman, Joseph Prickel and Steve Prickel, both of Batesville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation is Tuesday, April 12th, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13th, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. and Rev. Shawn Whittington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for medical expenses or Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice.
