Roy Mitchell Jr., 81 of Sunman passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati. Roy was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1943, in Harlan County, Kentucky; son of Roy Mitchell Sr. and Ivy Jeanette (Selvey) Mitchell. Roy married the love of his life, Mary (Banschbach) on August 24, 1967, and she survives him. Roy proudly served in the United States Army. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for the Lawrenceburg branch and was a member of the National Rural Letters Carrier Association. Roy was a member of the Milan VFW Post #6234, 40 & 8, Sunman American Legion Post #337, and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1130 of Batesville. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and traveling. Roy most of all cherished spending time with his loving family.
Roy will be missed by his wife of 56 years, Mary Mitchell of Sunman; sons Roy A. (Michelle) Mitchell of Fort Drum, New York and William (Holly) Mitchell of Eden, North Carolina; daughter Alicia Mitchell of Holton; sister Larvena (Jack) Brewer of Harlan County, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents Roy Mitchell Sr. and Ivy Jeanette Mitchell; daughter Marie Jeanette Mitchell; brother Joe Mitchell; and grandsons Anthony and Christian Mitchell.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Roy from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday August 15, 2024, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Sunman American Legion Post #337. Burial will follow at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery; 1415 North Gate Road, Madison, IN 47250. Memorials may be given in honor of Roy to the Milan VFW Post #6234.
