Rosemary Wenning

Rosemary Wenning, age 94 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at The Chateau of Batesville.  Born January 28, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she is the daughter of William and Clara (Nee: Bohman) Giltz.  She married Clement “Ralph” Wenning on May 5, 1956, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2019.  Rosie was a Teacher’s Assistant for several area schools, before retiring.  She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and its lady’s society, Daughters of Isabella, and the Rosie Red’s Club.

Rosemary’s faith was very important to her.  Before her health failed you always saw her at 9:30 am mass on Sunday in the same spot!  She often attended the weekly daily mass and enjoyed seeing the students of St. Louis School there.

Rosemary loved her grandchildren and was adamant about attending all their extracurricular activities, including soccer, which she never understood! She enjoyed music – especially Christmas music – and attended many live performances with her children, grandchildren and other groups.  Rosemary was a big fan of high school basketball – both Oldenburg Academy and Batesville High School.  She was a huge Red’s fan and she and Ralph attended many games including opening day for many years.  She also enjoyed working in the yard and in her flower beds.  Ralph and Rosemary took numerous bus trips to several parts of the country, but visits to the Smokey Mountains were always favorites.   She and Ralph loved to take rides to nowhere in particular and her daughters continued that tradition with her after Ralph passed away. After Ralph’s passing, Friday night dinner out at the Knights of Columbus with the “ladies” was always something to look forward to.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Kay (Toby) Mollaun of Norwalk, Ohio, Brenda Moorman of Batesville, Jackie (Brent) Fitzgerald of Plainfield, Indiana, Connie (Jeff) Grider of Whitestown, Indiana and Kim Wenning of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren Corey Mollaun, Michael and Max Moorman, Miranda Fitzgerald-Honore, Isabel Fitzgerald, Emma and Hayden Grider; 4 great grandchildren; sister Katherine “Kate” Wernke of North Vernon, Indiana and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents and husband Ralph, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kayla Fitzgerald and brother Bill Giltz.

Visitation is Friday, October 18th, from 10:00 – 11:45 a.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Stan Pondo officiating.  The burial will be at St. Louis Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Chateau of Batesville or to the St. Louis Church (Paint the Church Fund).  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
