Mrs. Rose Margaret “Billie” (Smock) Varble, age 89, of Moorefield, Indiana, passed away at 5:15 a.m., Wednesday September 11, 2024, at the Hickory Creek at Madison in Madison, Indiana. Billie was born on August 12, 1935 in Milan, Indiana to William Ray “Bill” and Margaret “Peggy” (Buchanan) Smock. She was raised in Switzerland County where she attended Vevay High School. Billie was united in marriage to Frederick A. “Fred” Varble on July 24, 1952, at the Vevay Presbyterian Church. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with eight children. As a wonderful homemaker, Billie dedicated her life to her family, where she created lasting memories through her love of cooking, baking and spending time with her family. She also helped milk cows on the family farm and enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and reading. Billie cherished the moments spent with her family and her beloved horses. Billie was a member of the Moorefield Community Fire Department. She held former memberships in the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church and the Fairview United Methodist Church.
Billie is survived by her sons, Dale Varble and his wife, Susan of Hanover, IN, R.H. Varble and his wife, Kris of Cincinnati, OH and Vincent Varble and his wife, Terry of Gulfport, MS; her daughters, Margaret Ann Riley and her husband, Kenny of Moorefield, IN, Lea Annette Varble of Moorefield, IN and Georgette O’Neal and her husband, Barry of Moorefield, IN; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Varble of Moorefield, IN; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bobbie Varble and his daughter, Addie, Katie Collier and her husband, Lance and their children, Macy and Cale, Kyle Riley and his wife, Patty and their daughter, Kallie, Dustin Varble, Holly Sharp and her husband, Jeremy and their children, Zach O’Neal and Shelby O’Neal and her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Ray “Bill” Smock; her mother, Margaret “Peggy” (Buchanan) Smock; her husband, Frederick A. “Fred” Varble; her son, Brian Varble and her daughter, Maria Suzette Varble.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, with Pastor Pat Lanman, officiating, in the Caledonia Cemetery near Moorefield, Indiana.
