Ronald P. Abplanalp

Ronald Paul Abplanalp, age 84 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.  Born July 12, 1940, in Batesville, he is the son of Harry J. and Norma (nee: Fritsch) Abplanalp.  He married Alberta Jo “Bertie” Stein on November 26, 1966, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville.  Ron was a retired Union Plasterer and was a 50+ year member of Operative Plasterers and Cement Mason International Association Local 672.  He was a life member of the Knights of St. John Commandery #243, a life 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1461, and a member of the Tri-County Conservation Club in Oldenburg, Indiana.

Ron, known by his loved ones as “Ronnie,” lived a meaningful life filled with unwavering love. He was a faithful husband to his wife, “Joey,” principled and thoughtful, witty and humble, and he was a resilient man even when things got hard. Ron found great joy in golfing, trapshooting, and playing cards. He was a dedicated Batesville Bulldog supporter including his avid love for Batesville football. Ron’s early years were dedicated to his father’s plastering business where he achieved many career milestones including mentoring individuals with pride in his craft and with patience as part of his union’s Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. Ron was honored by the State of Indiana with the Golden Hoosier Award for his varied service to the community. Ron was an active supporter of several organizations throughout the community including The Knights of Columbus and The Knights of St. John.

Ron was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, and displayed persistent faith. Ron leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength, perseverance, and integrity that will continue to inspire his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Over his lifetime, Ron shared many “putzers” with his countless friends and family around Batesville and always offered a warm smile. Ron will forever be remembered for his generous heart, bountiful wisdom, and unconditional love.

He is survived by his wife Bertie of Batesville; sons Patrick of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bradley (Tessa) of Mitchell, Indiana, and Daniel of Batesville; grandchildren A.J., Emma Kate, Lily, Jack, and Lucy Abplanalp; sister-in-law Pamela Abplanalp of Hartsville, Indiana.  In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his sisters Patricia Woolf and Marjorie White; brothers David and Donald Abplanalp.

Visitation is Monday, January 27th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28th, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg, with Fr.
