Milan junior Kayla Roell made history Friday when she won the first ever 120-pound girls wrestling state championship.
Roell won four matches at the inaugural IHSAA girls state wrestling finals at the Indiana State Fairgrounds’ Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis.
She was ranked fourth in her weight class, and defeated the seventh, third and fifth-ranked wrestlers on her way to the title.
The championship was clinched when she beat Aliyah McLean of McCutcheon in the finals.
Roell finishes the season at 36-1.
Another local wrestler also had an outstanding showing at the state finals. East Central’s Leighna Prater placed third in the 145 pound weight class.
