Robert R. Walsman

Robert R. Walsman, age 101 of Batesville, died Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.  Born December 2, 1921 in Sunman, Indiana, he is the son of Lydia (Nee: Meyer) and Quirin Walsman.  Bob served in the Army during World War II, entering in 1942 and was discharged in 1945.  He married Dorothy Day May 16, 1945 at Fort Benning in Georgia.  After the service, he opened Walsman Supply, retiring after 60 years.

An avid golfer, Bob was still golfing until just recently.  He also enjoyed gardening and is well known for his roses.  A member of the Greater Cincinnati Rose Society, anyone who has passed Bob’s house has seen the plentiful roses that adorn his yard.  He took great pride in them and the comments he received.  His real passion though, was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Robert (Snork) and Mary Anne Walsman of Batesville, son Thomas Walsman of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren Libby, Amy, Nathan and Jonathon Walsman, Lynn Ann Raabe and great grandchildren Maggie, Laney, Ava and Carter Walsman and Charlie, Leo and Max Raabe.  In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Barbara Ernstes, Mary Ellen Picker; brothers Howard and Rev. Paul Walsman OFM and daughter-in-law Barb Walsman.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 14th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Shaun Whittington and Rev. Stan Pondo officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Margaret Mary Health Foundation.  For online condolences go to www.weigelfh.com.
