Robert “Bob” Lee Green, 89, of Aurora, IN, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023.
He was born January 24, 1934, in Aurora, IN, son of the late Louis Green and Rosemary (Dalton) Green.
Bob served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Bob attended Southside Elementary, Northside Jr. High and Aurora High Schools. He was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track. He attended Valparaiso University on an athletic scholarship in 1952-1953. He then attended Indiana University 1954-1955, working as a whiter in sorority house. He worked at National Lead-Fernald from 1955- July 1956, before being drafted in the US Army in July of 1956. He was shipped to Korea in December 1956 until May 1958. Bob married Patsy Vastine in October 1956 and welcomed his daughter Vicky in July 1957.
His experience in Korea, from 1956-1958, consisted of being payroll clerk from December of ’56 – April of ’57’ he was a Special Force Athlete in track and pole vaulting, where he won the All Korea Championship, and placed 2nd at the All Far East Championship; for football, playing halfback, he won the All Korea and All Far East Championships.
Bob worked as a Quality Control Supervisor for Schenley Distillery from 1958-1968, 1968-1973 he worked at the Schenley Corp. Office in Cincinnati as a purchasing and Quality Control Expeditor. He attended Ball State University from 1968-1973. He graduated in 1971 with a B.S. Degree. He went on to Ball State Graduate School from 1973-1974 for his teaching license. From 1974-1977 Bob worked at Scheller Globe as a Production Manager in the steering wheel division; 1978-1982 at the Muncie Reclamation as a Production Manager in the Chrome Plating and New Bus parts; 1982-1985 for Lambrecht & Associates as a Realtor; 1985-1986 Southern Ohio College as an Instructor and Placement Director; 1987-1988 for Circular Tool Cord as a Production Manager in the circular knife division; 1988-1999 for Schneller Inc. as a 2nd shift manager in Airline Materials; 1999-2005 for the Pinnalas County School Corporation as a High School Substitute Teacher.
In 2005 he returned to Aurora, and on 5/16/2008 he married Marlene Livingston. In 2016 Bob was inducted into the Aurora High School Football Hall of Fame.
Robert “Bob” is survived by his loving spouse Marlene (Conway) Green, children, Victoria “Vicky” (Scott) Facemyre of Lawrenceburg, IN, Keith (Percilita) Green of Arizona; grandchild, Aaron (Michelle) Rumsey; great-grandchild, Liam Rumsey; step children, Judy Cooper, Donny Livingston, Kathy (Bill) Meyer, David Livingston; step grandchildren, Stacy (Brad) Mundy, Candice (Eric) Richardson, Billy Meyer, Nicole Mobley, Whitney, Kalena and Brook Livingston and 15 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rosemary Green; siblings, Jerry Green and Ruth Stegemiller.
Friends will be received Thursday, July 20, 2023, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home, at 2:00 pm.
Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery, Aurora, IN. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
