Robert “Bob” Lee Krieg, 89, of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on September 5, 2026.
He was born on December 9, 1936, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to the late William and Matilda (Bohner) Krieg.
He attended Napoleon High School and later Purdue University. Bob served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 and was stationed in Berlin, Germany.
On August 16, 1961, in Barcelona, Spain, Bob married Sotera “Carmen” De la Fuente. The couple later moved together to the United States. They met in Barcelona while Bob was on weekend leave; he spotted her from his car, and the rest is history.
After returning from the Army, he worked for 12 years at Cummins in Columbus, Indiana. He then became self-employed as the owner of Krieg Construction, where he built many homes in Batesville.
Bob loved to travel. He returned to Spain many times and also traveled throughout the United States.
Bob also enjoyed woodworking and photography.
He is survived by his children, Angel Grunkemeyer of Greensburg, Gary Krieg of Batesville, Connie Gunter (the late Roger) of Batesville, and Mark Krieg of Milford, Delaware; his grandchildren, Shannon (Joe) Loichinger, Jenna (Andrew) Mills, Erik Gunter, Ryan (Jocelyn) Grunkemeyer, and Colton Laudick; and his great-grandchildren, Carter, Austin, Tate, Graham, Noah, Caleb, Brody, Jaxon; and brother, Kenneth Krieg.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carmen, and by his great-grandson, Ollie Loichinger.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Catherine of Siena–St. John in Enochsburg, with Fr. Bill Ehalt officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery.
