Robert “Bob” Homer Imes, 81 years old, of Lawrenceburg, IN, died in Cincinnati, OH on April 20, 2024.
He was born in Shenandoah, Iowa in 1942 to Homer and Doris Imes, and his sister Rosemary. Bob attended Ohio Wesleyan University, majoring in chemistry, before attending Northwestern University and receiving a PhD in chemistry. He spent 37 years working as a research and polymer chemist. Over the course of his career he applied for 5 patents, earning 4.
Never one to sit still for long, following his retirement he began volunteering with the Dearborn Clearing House, where he became the treasurer for over a decade.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Homer C. Imes, mother Doris B. Imes, sister Rosemary Frey, and only seven weeks earlier, his beloved wife of 55 years, Nancy H. Imes. He is survived by his daughter Merrilee (Jed), sons Christopher (Vicki) and Peter (Jennifer); grandchildren David (Elaine), Stephen (Shea), Grace, and Christina; and great-grandchildren Molly, Noah, and Sloane.
Music was a huge part of Bob’s life, from playing trombone in the jazz band in high school, to singing tenor in church choir and community choral groups, including the opportunity to sing in Cambridge, England. After his retirement, he was a member of the Rivertown Players, performing in several musicals. Bob loved traveling with his wife Nancy, visiting over 25 countries and 4 continents. He learned to sail while in college and spent many weekends sailing with his wife and family. His other hobbies included woodworking, creating stained glass, and watching Indy car racing.
Bobs Memorial Service is May 18, 2024 at 11:00 am at Hamline Chapel, Lawrenceburg, IN. Donations to the Dearborn Clearing House would be greatly appreciated.
