Rita H. Zimmerman

Rita H. Zimmerman, age 89 of Batesville, died Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus.  Born June 22. 1933 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Josephine (Nee: Haverkos) and Joseph Mollaun.  She was the secretary for St. Louis School, retiring after 30 years.  She married Harry “Slim” Zimmerman February 8, 1964 at St. Louis Church.  After suffering a stroke, Rita took care of him at home until his death on March 10, 2005.

Rita was a people person.  Always willing to chat and quick with quip.  Many holiday gatherings were held at her house as well as countless impromptu driveway parties with neighbors and friends.  In later years she and her sisters would rotate hosting dinner at their homes and spend hours playing cards together.  You could find her at the Eagles club on Friday night, hoping to be the lucky winner of the drawing.  Rita was a dog lover who had many special friends through the years, enjoyed working crossword puzzles daily, liked fishing and was an avid golfer.  A member of Hillcrest Country Club for over 50 years, she was club champion multiple times and has two hole-in-ones to her credit.

She is survived by daughter Jane (Tom) Jent of Columbus, Indiana; son Jack Stephanie) Zimmerman of Batesville; sisters Mary Weigel and Joan Moorman, both of Batesville; grandchildren Andrew and Nathan Jent, Mariah Wyatt, Jenna and Reesa Zimmerman and great granddaughter Oakley Wyatt.  In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sister Norma Mollaun and brothers Robert “Cooch”, Julius “Dude”, Jerome, Alphonse “Butch”, Prosper, Paul, Eugene “Flud” and Albert Mollaun. Rita was the youngest of twelve.

Visitation is Tuesday, March 28th from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home.  Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Suresh Ganta officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The family requests memorials to St. Louis School or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer research.
