OHIO COUNTY, IN — A Rising Sun man is dead following a two-vehicle crash in rural Ohio County Tuesday morning.
Indiana State Police say 63-year-old Leo Philpot of Vevay was westbound in a UTV on Salem Ridge Road near Poorhouse Hill Road when he attempted to make a left turn into a field.
At the same time, a car driven by 35-year-old Alexander Lynn of Vevay was westbound on Salem Ridge approaching the back of the UTV and tried to pass Philpot in the eastbound lane. The car hit the back of the UTV and pushed it off the road, causing it to overturn.
A passenger in the UTV, 34-year-old Brandon Foutty of Rising Sun, was partially ejected. Foutty was taken to St. Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.
Philpot was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries while Lynn was not injured.
Toxicology results for both drivers are pending.
ISP is still investigating.
The Indiana State Police-Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team was assisted at the scene by the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, Aurora Police Department, Indiana Conservation Officers, Rising Sun Fire Department, Dearborn County Coroner’s Office, and Affordable Todd’s Wrecker Service.
