(Versailles/Milan, IN) – Ripley County EMS will host a pair of Safe Haven Baby Box blessing ceremonies later this month.

The first will take place at EMS headquarters in Versailles on June 17 at 1 pm, followed by a second dedication that afternoon at 3 pm at the Milan station.

Programs for each ceremony will include remarks by local and state officials, members of Ripley County EMS, Safe Haven Baby Boxes, and the Madison Mission, plus a Blessing and demonstration of the baby boxes.

The device allows a mother in crisis to safely and anonymously surrender her newborn – without fear of arrest or prosecution – by placing the infant in a secure, climate-controlled bassinet (pictured).

An alarm is triggered which alerts first responders, who then take the child to the nearest hospital for evaluation.

The baby is then put up for adoption.
