Richard Wayne “Dick” Detmer, 81, of Osgood passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Margaret Mary Health Campus. Dick was born on Saturday, October 3, 1942, in Milan; son of Elmer and Lauretta (Gilmore) Detmer. Dick married the love of his life, Patricia (Kelley) Detmer, on June 27, 1963, and she preceded him on February 27, 2007. He then went on to marry Violet June Blevins on December 26, 2008, and she preceded him on October 22, 2022. Dick was baptized into the Baptist faith in 1973 and loved blue grass and blue grass gospel music. Dick worked as a lab technician at Fernald from 1961-1998. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, trains, going to flea markets, and roller skating. He also enjoyed traveling, playing music, fishing, and hitting the open road on his motorcycle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his loving family, who was the highlight of his life.
Dick will be missed by his sons Jeffrey “Jeff” (Sandy) Detmer of Osgood and Jonathon Detmer of Ormand Beach, Florida; stepson Jim (Jessica) Blevins Jr. of Greensburg; daughter Julia (Gene) Boatwright of Milan; stepdaughter Deanie (Nate) Weckop of Greensburg; sister Pamula (Cliff) Papet of Louisville; 7 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 step great-granddaughter.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Lauretta Detmer; wives Patricia Detmer and Violet Blevins; and sister NeDena “Skippy” Robbins.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Dick from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Dick to the Donor’s Choice.
