Richard Hartman

Richard Hartman, 90 years old, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2019. Richard was a lifelong resident of Oldenburg, IN and of Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. He was the first born of ten children to Joseph & Rose Hartman. He worked alongside his father everyday at the family farm where they raised cattle, grew a huge vegetable garden and rotated crops such as corn, wheat, and hay. Prior to getting their first tractor, Richard would help in the fields as the horses pulled the plows. When the time came, Richard fought for the United States Army in the Korean war, on the front lines facing the Chinese. Upon his return to the United States, he continued to work with his father on the farm and even bought his own farm. Surviving several farm machine accidents, Richard was a hard worker, and dedicated to the family farm. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John’s Knights of Oldenburg, and the VFW.
Richard will be greatly missed by his siblings Dorothy (Francis) Flaspohler, Alfred (Erma) Hartman, Laurine Gramman, George Hartman, and Rose Eckstein; 50 nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. & Rose C. Hartman, and siblings Joseph B. Hartman, Ruth Harpring, Martin Hartman, and Evelyn Elsmer.
