(Greensburg, IN) – The Greensburg Fire Department has updated the cause of a blaze that damaged The tAAp restaurant and bar on Washington Street along the courthouse square in late August.

Chief Nathan Stoermer says further investigation has determined that the original electrical cause has been ruled out, and that improperly discarded cigarette butts touched off the flames.

Stoermer says the fire is still classified as accidental.

The fire was reported just after 6 p.m. on August 30.

Crews from nearby Greensburg Fire Department Station 2 arrived within 45 seconds of the initial dispatch, and had water on the flames shortly afterward.

Stoermer says their quick action, along with the efforts of the Greensburg Police Department, prevented further damage, which was limited to smoke and water.

There were no injuries reported.

The fire report has been sent to the Decatur County Prosecutor’s Office for review of any potential charges.
