Report: State facing school nurse shortage

Indianapolis, IN — A new report from the Governor’s Public Health Commission says Indiana has a school nurse shortage.

Currently, schools in the state are required to have at least one school nurse on staff.

The report recommends changing the requirement to one nurse for every 750 students.

Some school corporations around the state say they have trouble finding nurses because of pay.

The report suggests the state may need to cover the cost to make hiring and retaining school nurses easier.
