Versailles, In. — Enjoy beautiful scenery while creating works of art through the Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites program, sponsored by the Indiana Arts Commission.
The program is designed to draw upon both traditional and non-traditional arts and artists in Indiana and weave arts programming into the natural beauty and rural settings of Indiana. More than 250 projects are taking place across the state this year that encourage the creation of and public engagement with art, as well as the chance to experience Indiana’s state park and state forest system, and its historic sites.
“We’re proud of the artistic talent in Indiana,” said Anna Tragesser, IAC artist and community services manager. “These activities are the perfect opportunity for any Hoosier to be creative and inspired by our state’s rich natural and historical places.”
Arts programs at Indiana State Parks properties range from a natural dyes workshop at McCormick’s Creek State Park to creating art projects out of recycled materials at Versailles State Park to traditional Miami plant- and food-knowledge hikes at Chain O’Lakes State Park, and crafting music in the trees at Mississinewa and Salamonie lakes.
The following events will be held at the Versailles State Park:
- April 8 Wildflower Photography Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m.
- April 9 Acrylic Painting with Debi Black from 6 to 8 p.m.
- April 10 Creating Flora and Fauna using Gum Paste from 6 to 8 p.m.
- April 11 Bottle Art- Recycled Treasures from 6 to 8 p.m.
- April 11 Art in Nature IV: Woodturning for the Bees (turning a honey dipper)
- April 11 Art in Nature IV: Kid’s Mixed Media Recycled Art from 9 to 11 a.m.
- May 18 Paints in the Parks: The Final Five and Art Exhibit From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
