Reds take down Mariners in series opener

The Cincinnati Reds got out to an early 5-0 lead and held on to win 6-3 on Monday. The first run scored on a single by Elly De La Cruz in the 1st. Renfroe knocked in the second run in the same inning with a single of his own later, giving Cincinnati a 2-0 lead.

Spencer Steer gave the Reds a 5-0 lead with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 2nd.

Seattle would get on the board in the 4th inning on a solo home run by Juan Rodriguez. Mike Ford cut the Mariners’ deficit down to 3 with a solo home run of his own in the 5th.

The Reds scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the 7th on a Tyler Stephenson double, giving them a 6-2

The Mariners scored one more run in the top of the 9th on a JP Crawford single before Reds reliever Ian Gibaut struck out Juan Rodriguez looking to give Cincinnati the 6-3 win in the series opener.

Tyler Stephenson went 2-4 with the aforementioned double and an RBI.

The Reds (72-68) are currently in a two-way tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final Wild Card spot in the National League.
