Reds suffer 2nd straight blowout loss to Cubs

A promising start for the Reds turned into another blowout loss on Wednesday night, as Cincinnati fell to the Chicago Cubs 16-6.

The Reds started out hot with an early 3-0 leading after 2 innings, thanks to Spencer Steer’s 2-run blast in the first and Joey Votto’s solo home run in the second.

However, the Cubs would score all 16 of their runs in innings 3-8, including a 5 -run 6th, to hand Cincinnati their second straight loss.  Chicago’s Ian Happ went 2-4 with 2 home runs and 2 RBI.

Fielding played a role in the loss for the Reds, as 4 runs scored on 4 errors.

Joey Votto was a bright spot in the loss for Cincinnati, batting 2-5 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI.

Brandon Williamson was handed the loss on the mound, striking out 7 while allowing 5 earned runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of work.
