Reds give up go-ahead homer in 8th in series opening loss to D-Backs

The Cincinnati Reds dropped the road series opener to the Arizona D-Backs 3-2 Thursday night thanks to an 8th inning 2-run home run by D-Backs Rookie Corbin Carroll.

Runs came at a premium in this game, with the first run not being scored until the bottom of the 7th when Arizona’s Nick Ahmed knocked in a run on a single to right.

The Reds scored 2 to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th. The first run scored on a Nick Senzel solo homer. The second came on a Tyler Stephenson RBI single to center to give Cincinnati a 1-run advantage before giving up the aforementioned home run in the 8th.

The Reds managed just 3 hits in the game, while the D-Backs recorded 10.

Brandon Williamson pitched a no-decision for the Reds, allowing no runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 batters. Alex Young (4-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing the go-ahead homer in the 8th.

Game 2 of the series is tonight. First pitch is at 9:40 pm.
