Reds drop to 1/2 game back of final NL Wild Card spot with series finale loss to Mariners

With Wednesday night’s 8-4 loss to Seattle last night and a win by Miami (72-67), the Cincinnati Reds (73-69) are now a 1/2 game back of the Marlins for the final Wild Card spot in the National League.

The 4th inning was the Reds’ ultimate demise, as pitcher Lucas Richardson gave up 5 runs to the Mariners in the frame, making it a 7-1 game. 3 of the runs scored on a J.P. Crawford home run.

Cincinnati would close the gap to 4 runs on two occasions but could not to cut the deficit any further, resulting in the 8-4 loss.

Highlighting the Reds’ offense was Will Benson, batting 3-4 with a home run, a double, and an RBI.

Richardson (0-2) took the loss on the mound, allowing 7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings work.

Cincinnati has the day off before kicking off a 3-game home series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. The first pitch for that game is at 6:40.
