(Ripley County, IN) – The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is dealing with a scam targeting registered sex offenders.
Deputies say scammers are calling offenders, posing as police officers, and using the names of Sheriff’s Office employees to get offenders to send money.
The Sheriff’s Office says it will never ask anyone to send money thru a BitCoin kiosk, gift cards, or any type of wire transfer.
Authorities say if you receive such a call, you’re urged not to give or verify any personal information, and to tell the caller that you will personally contact the Sheriff’s Office.
