(Ripley County, IN) – The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says a familiar phone scam has popped up again.
This time, someone is calling local businesses asking for employees’ personal information.
Deputies looked into recent reports and discovered the scammer has used an app to spoof the Sheriff’s Office phone number.
Ripley County deputies occasionally call or visit employers during investigations, but add if you have received a call similar to this, contact the Sheriff’s Office at (812) 689-5558 to verify the caller’s information and affiliation with the agency.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says they will never ask someone to pay a bond or other fees – and urge you to never give personal information – over the phone.
