(Osgood, IN) – The Ripley County Health Department was at the 4-H Fair Tuesday night promoting its services, including lead testing for children.

Candy Gunther with the health department says if your house was built before 1978, chances are some kind of lead paint is either inside or outside the home.

“If the child gets tested and their lead level is high, it could lead to mental or physical developmental issues,” Gunther said.

She added children should be tested at nine to 15 months of age, and then periodically thereafter.

If you have questions about lead testing, contact the Ripley County Health Department at (812) 689-5751.

The agency’s other services include immunization, food inspections, a harm reduction program, and vital records, among others.
