RIPLEY COUNTY, IN — The Ripley County Community Foundation welcomed its newest interns last week. The foundation’s internship program seeks to, “engage local young people into the work of the Community Foundation in hope that they will become lifelong philanthropists,” according to the foundation’s Executive Director Amy Streator. The three interns, Ava Allen, Amelia Austin, and Emma Weberding will intern at the foundation for the latter half of their senior year at Oldenburg Academy.
Ava has committed to American University in Washington, DC. She plans to double major in C.L.E.G. (Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, & Government) and Environmental Studies. She enjoys working with Oldenburg Academy Ambassadors and the Academy Singers. In her spare time, she plays basketball. Ava joined the internship, “because it was an incredible opportunity to help the community.”
Amelia plans to double major in Spanish and Political Science after her graduation, eventually attending law school. Amelia is a member of the swim team and academic team. She is
passionate about environmental conservation. Amelia began her internship with the foundation in order to better prepare her for her work in law.
Emma will be attending Ball State and majoring in Speech-Language Pathology. She plays soccer and basketball for Oldenburg Academy. On the weekends she enjoys hanging out with
friends. Emma joined the internship to, “give back to the community”.
While interning at the foundation, Emma, Amelia, and Ava will become better prepared for their future careers. They will learn real-life skills while helping to better their community.
