RIPLEY COUNTY, IN — Meredith McCreary of Batesville is the recipient of the 2021 Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship. The Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Doris Brelage after her death. Doris was a registered nurse and EMS member; she spent thirty-seven years at Margaret Mary Community Hospital as Director of Nursing, Head of Surgical Nursing, and Director of Infection Control. The Ripley County Community Foundation is proud to administer the Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship because Doris was a great example of the best Ripley County has to offer. She was kind, generous, and dedicated to the community.

Lisa Banks, RN, states, “Doris was a dedicated nurse, great friend, and mentor. I think she would be very proud to support Meredith in her nursing career. Meredith is an exemplary student and dedicated community servant.”

To qualify for this scholarship, students must be a graduate of Batesville High School or be nominated by a practicing nurse at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, be accepted into a nursing school, and demonstrate dedication to both academics and community service.

“The mission of the Ripley County Community Foundation is to enhance the quality of life available in our local communities. The Doris A. Brelage Scholarship is an example of how the Ripley County Community Foundation works to open the door to advanced education for nontraditional students and connects local employers with qualified employees,” stated Amy Streator, Executive Director at the Ripley County Community Foundation. Streator further noted, “The Ripley County Community Foundation is an organization designed to allow everyone to leave a lasting legacy for the benefit of their community, favorite organization, or cause.”
