Raymond Allen Zimmer passed away at Margaret Mary Hospital on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Born on March 11, 1962 he was the son of Wilbur Zimmer and Edith (Smith) Zimmer. The friendly Sunman resident was 64 years young.
Ray spent his younger years grooming race horses. He graduated from East Central High School in 1980. Ray then attended the Lincoln Tech School for mechanics. In 1981 he met Fran Hilshorst, and married the love of his life in 1985.
He operated heavy equipment for a living before he retired in 2024. He was a member of the Region 7 ABATE of Indiana. Ray was an ornery fella but loved his family and friends. He loved horses, mules, dogs, hunting, shooting clay birds, and camping. Ray was also known as Razor and Festus, by many friends. Later on the grandkids named him Pap Pap, which was his favorite name of all!
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Francesca Zimmer, and his two daughters, Amanda (Dallas) Meyer and Abby Zimmer (Mark Stutz); two grandkids Lexie Meyer and Stetson Stutz; two sisters, Kathy Gerbig (Jeff) and Julie McIntosh (Gary) along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Edith Zimmer, his aunt Virgina Smith (Zimmer), his uncles Leslie Smith and Paul Smith, his niece Heather (Braun) Wells, and his cousin Darren Zimmer and other friends.
Ray’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a Celebration of Life held from 12:00-3:00pm on Wednesday, October 28th at the The Dive/The Sunman American Legion. Come have a beer with the family!
