Raymond Wayne Smith, 91, of Batesville passed away March 4, 2023, in Venice, Florida surrounded by family.
Wayne was born in Batesville, IN on August 28, 1931 to Raymond and Ellen (Crowell) Smith. He graduated from Batesville High School and went on to earn degrees from the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. On November 18, 1955, Wayne married Shirley Tangman and they shared over fifty years of married life.
Wayne was a long-time resident of Batesville, and served in the military where he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Artillery. Wayne was an avid golfer, enjoyed college basketball (especially supporting his UC Bearcats), a supporter of American Legion Baseball, and always looked forward to attending the Indy 500. Wayne was a member of the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1130.
Wayne was proceeded in death by his son Raymond Jr. and his wife Shirley. He is survived by his sons Randy and Lance (Sarah) along with his 4 grandchildren: Raymond, Collin, Abigail, and Ella.
Private services will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Batesville. Military honors will be conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
