Popular teacher, coach, community member passes away

(Brookville, IN) – A popular Franklin County Community Schools teacher and coach has passed away.

Derik “Bub” Orschell was the head of the Special Education Department at Franklin County High School, as well as a high school football assistant coach for 15 years.

He also coached middle school and youth football, wrestling, and basketball.

In addition, Orschell officiated wrestling, basketball, and baseball, and was active in several community organizations.

He passed away Sunday at the age of 40 following a brief illness.

The lights were turned on at all sports fields around Brookville Sunday night to pay tribute in memory of Orschell as part of the “Light Up the Sky for #BubStrong” initiative.

Bub Orschell’s funeral and visitation will take place Thursday in the Franklin County High School gym.
