Police are investigating late night shooting in Batesville

Batesville, IN—The Batesville Police Department is investigating a shootout involving multiples suspects in the Larosa’s parking lot late Wednesday night.

At around 10:40 p.m. the dispatch center received a 911 call reporting several gunshots being fired.  BPD officers arrived on the scene in about three minutes and discovered all suspects had already fled.  According to witnesses, two Hispanic males pulled into the Larosa’s parking lot in a black Buick passenger car with tinted windows.  While that vehicle was driving through, two white males came walking from the area of Skyline Chili. A shootout then ensued between the subjects on foot and the individuals in the Buick.  The witness’s reported that approximately twenty shots were fired before all suspects fled the scene.

The Buick was last seen southbound on Bedel Boulevard headed towards SR 46.  The two suspects on foot ran in the direction of the Quality Inn hotel. They were described as white males in their twenties, approximately 5’8” tall with a medium build. One was described as wearing black shorts and a black shirt, while the other was described as wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a white ball cap.

The occupants of the Buick were only described as Hispanic males.

The investigating officers determined that several vehicles parked in the area were struck by bullets, including a semi-trailer hauling propane tanks.  Officers also discovered that a window on the Quality Inn was shot.

More than a dozen officers from BPD, Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, and the Indiana State Police were on scene for several hours processing evidence and gathering information from witnesses. The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office responded with a drone equipped with thermal imaging.  The Indiana State Police also deployed their tracking canine.
