As well as Greensburg Boys Basketball plays at home and the talent the Pirates possess, it wasn’t a surprise the Bucs beat Batesville Friday night in the Tree City. The 74-39 final, however, was a bit of shocker.
The Bulldogs are a good bunch in their own right but were missing starting point guard Cole Werner due to injury.
Outside of a few very early lead changes, this non-conference game heard on WRBI was all Greensburg. The Pirates led 19-5 after one quarter and 38-15 at the half.
The Buccaneers were paced by 21 points over the first 16 minutes by Colin Comer. Thomas Raver’s nine points were tops for the Dogs. He had all five of his team’s points during the first period.
The song and dance from the first half pretty much continued in the second half. G’burg held a 62-25 advantage at the third stop, then went on to finish the night under a running clock and a 74-39 final.
Ki Dyer dialed up 25 points for the Pirates, of which the lion’s share came during the third quarter. Comer added just two points to his first half total and finished with 23. The two players combined for nine triples. Addison Barnes-Pettit added 10 to the victor’s scorecard.
For Batesville, Raver collected a team-best 18 points while Cade Kaiser added eight.
The big team stats of the night for the Pirates included 70 percent shooting from the floor and forcing 11 more turnovers than they committed.
