In their last home game of the season, Greensburg played host to the Lawrenceburg Tigers (ranked 20th in class 2A) and fell 3-1. The Pirates played Lawrenceburg tough throughout the game, despite allowing 3 first half goals, 1 off of a penalty kick. Senior Mason Ponsler had 18 saves on the game and made several athletic plays in order to keep the Tigers from extending the lead. The second half saw the Pirate defense shut out Lawrenceburg, largely in part due to Ponsler’s effort. With less than 10 minutes left to play, the Pirates found the back of the net when Lawrenceburg saved a shot from Nicholas Zapfe and freshman Grayson Newhart followed and finished off the deflection (Newhart’s fourth of the season). The shut out half was the 3rd of the season from the Pirate defense, and the goal scored was the first goal scored against Lawrenceburg in DeVolld’s 4 years as head coach.
