Pirates Fall Short Against Wildcats

The Franklin County Wildcats came to visit the Greensburg Pirates on Thursday evening for their second conference match up of the season. The Wildcats bested the Pirates back on August 21 when the Pirates were the visitors, though it took overtime for FC to be victorious. FC beat Greensburg 6-4 after two extra 7 minute periods. Thursday, the game intensity was the same, with a slightly different result, this time, in favor of the Pirates. Greensburg started the scoring early with Vincent Pavy getting through the Wildcat back line and putting a goal in 1 minute and 22 seconds into the game. It’s Pavy’s team-leading 6th goal of the season. Greensburg found the net later in the first half with senior Nicholas Zapfe finding freshman Grayson Newhart for the Pirates’ second goal. The Wildcats were able to draw to within one before halftime with a goal of their own, moments after Newhart’s goal. The second half was very defensive for the Pirates, and it wasn’t until a late handball in the box allowed for the Wildcats to get right back in it. FC was able to sink the PK and tie the game at 2-2 with less than 20 minutes left. The Pirates relied on the heroics of Zapfe again, as he scored the game winning goal with around 10 minutes left to play. The Pirates finished the game strong and held on to win the game 3-2. Greensburg moves to 2-5 on the season, and 1-2 in EIAC play.
