Phase II of I-74 reconstruction begins

Batesville, In. — The right lane of westbound Interstate 74 is closed from State Road 101 to Batesville while crews strengthen the shoulder. The work is part of Phase II of the $61 million road reconstruction project.

Barrels and signboards are being placed to route motorists onto westbound I-74’s left lane between Exit 156 and the rest area east of Batesville.  Later, the closure will advance to Exit 149 at Batesville.  Eventually, the westbound right lane closure will extend to the Exit 143 at New Point.

Milling and paving operations along the outside shoulder must be done to accommodate traffic shifts along westbound I-74 while eastbound I-74 lanes are being reconstructed.

Milestone is the state’s prime contractor for rebuilding I-74 pavement in Decatur, Franklin and Ripley Counties—with construction of bridge superstructures at Little Laughery Creek and Western Creek
