Patti Huser, 73

Patti Huser, 73, of Greensburg passed away on December 27, 2022 with her family by her side – confused, heartbroken, and at peace, if all those things can be felt at the same time. She was born in Greensburg, Indiana on April 25, 1949 as the perfect second child to Bob and Elvera Shaw, who have preceded her in death (and apparently actually named her Donna Marie but that’s a story for another day!)

Patti was a 1967 graduate of Greensburg Community High School and a 1971 graduate of Ball State University. She married Fred Huser on June 6, 1970 and managed to put up with him for over 52 years, a feat no one understands or should attempt to beat. They raised two daughters, Christine and Elizabeth, who can hope to be the mother she was to them to her four grandsons. While she thought her daughters were pretty great, she found joy and a reason to push through to spend as much time as the Lord would give her with her four grandsons. There was no hesitation to retire and end a 39 year teaching career to be called grandma.

Involved in sports from her youth through college, she returned to Greensburg to teach physical education and math, coach golf and tennis, and lead clubs (FCA a favorite of all who joined) at GCHS. She was a true Pirate supporter of every activity and every student she knew. She was an active member of Community Church of Greensburg, enjoyed volunteering with and fundraising for local programs, and perhaps one of her favorite pastimes was Monday night golf league – and Monday night drinks when the course needed a break. She enjoyed her life, she enjoyed her friends and she loved being with and serving them, expecting nothing in return.

Left here with an abundance of good memories are her husband, Fred, her two daughters, Christine (Matt) Huser-Hygema, Liz (Kelby) Owens, arguably a third in Sonja Kolkemeier, four grandsons, all her favorites, Grant, Luke, Bennett and Nick, and her five siblings, each of whom now think they are the perfect one, Bill (Judy) Shaw, Sandra Shaw, David (Suzie) Shaw, Michael Shaw who thinks he’s the baby of the family and Susan (Eugene) Peters who is the baby of the family. Patti is also survived by her sister in law, Grace Huser, bonus sister, Karen Newman, two nieces and four nephews, several and counting great nieces and nephews and let’s not forget all those cousins who originated down in Batesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Martha and Lawrence Huser, and one son, Christopher, who passed at his birth but can now finally be held in his mothers arms.

Please feel welcome to wear a mask and join the family to share memories of the good times while finding comfort with friends during a reception style visitation at Gilliland Howe Funeral Home on Friday, December 30th from 3-7 pm. One final farewell, or as some people call it, a funeral, will be held Saturday, December 31st at 10 am at the Community Church of Greensburg. Private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, because what is she supposed to do with those now, please make memorial contributions to The Branch Coffee Shop, the Community Church of Greensburg, the Bread of Life soup kitchen in Greensburg, or any organization in which you and Patti shared a connection. If you are a blood donor and can give in this way please do to help give others a fighting chance. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com
