Overturned semi snarls traffic near Versailles; driver not hurt

RIPLEY COUNTY, IN — There were no injuries reported when a tractor-trailer overturned Tuesday around 2:30 pm on State Road 129 near County Road 800 South near Versailles.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year-old Couto Dasilva Wellington of New Jersey was operating a 2010 International semi pulling a flatbed hauling two steel coils weighing approximately 20,000 pounds apiece, traveling north on 129 when his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Wellington was not injured in the accident but the road was shut down for about three-and-a-half hours while Todd’s Wrecker Service removed the vehicle, debris, and steel coils from the roadway.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.
