(Ripley County, IN) – An Osgood man was seriously injured and another is facing charges following a fiery single-vehicle wreck near Holton over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Nathan Scoggins of Osgood went off County Road 850 North and into a wooded area near the Otter Creek Covered Bridge shortly after Midnight Saturday.
Deputies arriving on the scene found Scoggins and his passenger, 20-year-old Cameron Gehl, were both outside the truck.
The vehicle was on fire and rescue crews pulled both men to safety.
The crash remains under investigation but alcohol is suspected to be a factor, and toxicology results are pending.
Deputies say Scoggins was arrested and that charges are pending against him.
Investigators say Gehl could not walk and had to be airlifted by PHI Helicopter to UC Medical Center.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Otter Creek (Holton) Volunteer Fire Department, Ripley County EMS and Affordable Todd’s Wrecker Service.
