(Dearborn County, IN) – A man is dead and another was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in Dearborn County early Tuesday morning.
Indiana State Police say the initial investigation indicated that shortly after 6 a.m., a 2003 Chevrolet truck driven by 19-year-old Trent J. Laudermilt of Muncie was traveling east on the 8900 block of East State Road 350 when his vehicle hit a disabled 2008 Chevrolet truck.
After the collision, Laudermilt’s vehicle struck a guardrail and went down an embankment.
His passenger, 19-year-old Jeffrey Cole, also from Muncie, was ejected from the vehicle.
Cole sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Laudermilt was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Troopers say the investigation determined that neither Laudermilt nor Cole were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Toxicology results on Laudermilt are pending.
State Road 350 was closed for over four hours for the crash investigation and cleanup.
ISP was assisted by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, Aurora EMS, Hogan Volunteer Fire Department, and Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.
