One injured in Evansville Walmart shooting; suspect killed in shootout

Evansville, IN — Evansville Police and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies raced to a Walmart in Evansville at about 10:00 Thursday after a report of an active shooter.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson said deputies began to chase the suspect.

“The old model was to secure a scene and wait for back up and that went out the window with Columbine,” Robinson said.

That suspect was shot and killed when multiple law enforcement members returned fire.

“I’m happy that… in the sense that we had an efficient response and we train for this kind of thing,” Robinson added.

At least one person was injured in the shooting.

Their condition was not known as of Friday morning.

Authorities are asking anyone who left the scene with any kind of injury to contact emergency medical services.
