(Decatur County, IN) – One person was hospitalized following a four-vehicle chain reaction collision on State Road 3 near County Road 400 North in Decatur County Monday afternoon.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says it was just before 3:30 p.m. when the driver of a southbound vehicle, Luke Tichenor of Greensburg, told deputies he looked down at his speedometer, looked back up, and spotted a second vehicle, driven by Cody McClara of Rushville stopped in traffic.

Tichenor’s vehicle struck McClara’s vehicle from behind.

A third vehicle driven, by Joshua Young of Seymour, then hit the rear of a fourth vehicle, which was driven by Rhonda Harmon of Connersville.

Sheriff Bill Meyerrose says McClara, Young, and Harmon’s vehicles were stopped on State Road 3 just as busses were leaving the North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School parking lot.

McClara was taken by ambulance to Decatur County Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Decatur County Communications, the Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, and the Clarksburg Fire Department.

Meyerrose and his deputies would like to remind drivers to be observant in school zones when students are being dropped off in the morning or leaving school at the end of the school day.
