One dead, one jailed after deadly vehicle vs. pedestrian crash

GREENSBURG, IN — One man from Greensburg is dead and another is behind bars after a deadly vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in the area of Moscow Road and 11th Street just before 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

Greensburg Police said a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Pedro Ramirez-Cuautle went off the road and struck 23-year-old Kamryn Smith, went back across the road, and struck a pole.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramirez-Cuautle was arrested on preliminary charges of Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving, Reckless Homicide, and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.

The Greensburg Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist Matthew Holley and the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.

Also responding to the scene were the Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, and TDS Towing.
