Switzerland/Jefferson Counties, IN — An elderly woman is dead and a number of homes and roads were damaged after flash floods hit Switzerland and Jefferson counties Saturday night.

Authorities in Jefferson County say the woman was in her home when it was swept away by flood waters.

Her body was found several miles downstream.

Switzerland County is under a yellow travel advisory due to a number of roads closed because of high water and debris, and bridges that are washed out, including the one along State Road 250 near Bennington and Pleasant (pictured).

Anywhere from 9 to 11 inches of rain fell in Switzerland County between Saturday night and Sunday.
