The OA Twisters closed out the regular season with a home game against the Richmond Red Devils. The game served as the last time up before sectional play.
WRBI’s Terrance Arney reported, early on, it appeared to be the Twisters night as the home team took the early led at 35:11. OA’s Eric Cornelius took advantage of a loose ball in front of the goal and put it in the net off his right foot.
Later in the first half, Richmond forward Darius Hogg caught the Twister defense off guard and slipped an outside shot past the OA goalie with 18:30 left in the half. Before the Twisters could regroup, the Red Devils scores their second goal exactly one minute later.
Richmond added a security goal early in the second half and went on to win the match 3-1. Richmond finishes the season 6-6-1 while the Twisters finish 7-8 on the season.
The Twisters will began sectional play next Wednesday against Greenwood Christian. Kickoff is set for 5 pm.
“The regular season came to an end on a great night for soccer,” said OA coach Ken Getz. “We got off to a great start scoring just five minutes into the game but, as we did on Monday, we couldn’t find the back of the net again. It was a pretty even game between both schools.”
“It’s always a sad night for the seniors as it was the last game they got to play at The Graveyard,” added Getz. “Thanks for all of the memories so far. We hope to have many more during our tournament run.”
