On Saturday, the Oldenburg Academy varsity baseball team traveled to Vevay to take on the Switzerland County Pacers. It was a hard fought game on a very humid morning, but
the Twisters overcame the Pacers rally to win 9-7.
The Twisters got things started in the first inning when Jacob Hoff just missed hitting the Twisters first home run of the game. However, the hit did score one run for the Twisters.
Going into the fifth inning, the Twisters were up 5-1. However, the Pacers had other ideas as they stormed back to tie that game 5-5. Switzerland County tied things up when Jackson Sparks doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
The Twisters went on to add 4 in the sixth, and that was enough for them to pull out the victory. “This was a sectional type game today. No lead was safe, but our boys battled through everything. Late in the season it is good to have a game like this to get ready for sectional. Experience means a lot when it comes to sectionals. I’m just very proud of how our boys played today.” Coach Kolks said after the game.
Zach Hoff was credited with the victory for the Twisters. The righty allowed four hits and five runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Clay Eckstein and Jacob Stenger entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Roark took the loss for Switzerland County. The hurler surrendered four runs on five hits over three innings, striking out two.
The Twisters return home Monday to host the Triton Central Tigers at Liberty Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
