Ohio reports first West Nile death of 2017

Defiance County, Oh. — The Ohio Department of Health has confirmed the first death of the year related to West Nile virus. The 74-year-old man was from Defiance County on Indiana’s border.

Ohio has reported 10 human cases of the disease this year. Counties with at least one case include Clark, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Defiance, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Logan and Summit.

In 2016 Ohio reported 4 West Nile deaths, Indiana reported two.
