Ohio city to enforce roadway debris ordinance

Fremont, Oh. — Citing danger to motorcyclists, a northern Ohio city plans to begin ticketing people for blowing grass clippings on city streets.

Current city code in Fremont says dumping grass clippings in the roadway is illegal, defining it as “placing injurious material or obstruction in the street.

Code enforcement officials and city police say they plan to look closer at the problem during warmer months.

Mayor Sanchez said the following via social media:

April showers bring May showers which brings tall grass!

We understand that it has been a very rainy spring and most residents are just now getting a chance to mow their lawns, but please do not blow your grass into the roadway. It is a safety issue for motorcycle drivers and is illegal under City Ordinance 311.01 “Placing Injurious Material or Obstruction in Street.” Our Police Department and Code Enforcer will be paying special attention to this in the coming weeks and throughout the warmer months. Please make every effort to keep grass out of our streets and keep Fremont safe for our friends on two wheels!

Respectfully,
Mayor Sanchez
