Offense wins the day in North Decatur varsity softball’s win over South Ripley

Thursday night’s game between North Decatur and South Ripley varsity softball didn’t lack offense, as the Chargers came out with a 17-15 win in 8 innings.

While there was plenty of offense, it actually didn’t come until the 4th inning when North Decatur scored 5 runs and South Ripley scored 1. Both teams would score in every inning following.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Raiders would trail 13-9. South Ripley went on to score 4 runs in the inning, with Brooklyn Brown hitting in the final two runs of the inning on a game tying 2-run home run to send it to extra innings.

In the top of the 8th, North Decatur put up 4 runs to give them a 17-13 lead. The comeback attempt by the Raiders in the bottom of the inning would fall short, leading to the 17-15 win for the Chargers.

Irene had 4 RBI in the win, while Sarah Swain and Emma Schoettmer both had 2 RBI.

The Raiders offense was led by Brooklyn Brown who went 3-5 with a double, a home run, and 5 RBI.
